Lidija Strika
(bass / Croatia)
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Lidija Strika is a Croatian bassist and bandleader, who has a deep passion for music, visual arts, and linguistic expression. Growing up in Zürich and Rijeka, known for their cultural diversity and vibrant underground scene, she was exposed early on to psychedelic 60s rock, brit-pop, new wave, and later soul and jazz.
Lidija strives to create a sound that reflects everything that has influenced her as both a person and a musician – drawing inspiration from music and nature, life experiences, insights into human relations, literature, art history, and more. During the Covid-pandemic, Lidija formed a quartet with Emiliano Roca on guitar and Niccolò Angioni on trumpet. They later welcomed Leo Giger on drums and embarked on a journey of composing original pieces for this lineup and arranging compositions from artists like Bobby Watson, Benny Golson, Paul Simon, and Bill Frisell. In the fall of 2021, they recorded Mr. Curfew, their first single, and have plans to release their debut album in the fall/winter of 2023.
Lidija’s musical education includes studying in Austria and at the Hague Royal Conservatoire under the guidance of Tony Overwater. She has had the opportunity to learn from renowned musicians like John Patitucci, Joe Sanders, Gregory Hutchinson, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Shai Maestro, Han Bennink, Chris Cheek, Or Bareket, Petros Klampanis, and others.
