SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Grammy award-winner David Sánchez is recognized around the world as one of the finest saxophonists of his generation. His mastery of the instrument is undeniable and his sound unmistakable. Combine that with Sánchez’s deep-seated knowledge of both Jazz and Latin music and the traditions that mold them, and the results are extraordinary.

Sánchez joined Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Orchestra in 1990 and Dizzy became his mentor. After the dissolution of the orchestra, Sánchez continued to play with Dizzy until his death in 1993. Over a career full of highlights, he has performed with a roster of greats including Charlie Haden, Eddie Palmieri, Roy Haynes, Tom Harrell, Roy Hargrove, and Pat Metheny, among others. Sánchez is an active member of the renowned SF Jazz Collective, which also includes musicians Chris Potter, Mike Rodriguez, Warren Wolf, Edward Simon, Matt Brewer and Kendrick Scott, and is also a faculty member of the Roots, Jazz, and American Music department at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
