SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Ajda Stina Turek is a Slovenian singer who graduated from Jazz Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston where she was also the only recipient of The Outstanding Jazz Vocalist award in 2017 among 1200 singers. While still a student, she released her debut EP Sonder with a sold-out tour in Slovenia. Her music was featured on European national radio stations, on World Jazz Day in the same year. After completing her degree in Boston, Ajda moved to New York where she performed at the famous Birdland Jazz Club and other venues on Broadway. Ajda had a chance to work with many notable musicians such as Kurt Elling, Rita Moreno, Lucinda Williams, Kevin Mahogany, Rosanne Cash, Lionel Richie, Peter Eldridge (New York Voices) and others. In 2019 she represented Slovenia as a singer of the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra in Austria and also won the Most Promising Author and Performer award at the oldest and most important Slovenian music festival Popevka 2019 for her composition. During the Covid pandemic, she moved back to Europe and recorded a duo jazz album with a vibraphonist Vid Jamnik and in collaboration with the national radio ARS. Last summer she finished her master’s degree in Contemporary Performance and Production at Berklee Valencia in Spain. Last May, Ajda performed at the Jazz Hr festival with BB RTS, presenting two of her own compositions. This June, she released her second EP called Trauma. Its purpose is to raise mental health awareness.
