After exploring the island and taking part in the traditional olive tree planting, the musicians are ready for three days of immersion in jazz melodies.
Musicians and participants from Croatia, the surrounding region, and across the globe have arrived on Lopud, where everything is ready for the launch of this year’s second summer event organized by the Ponta Lopud Creative Platform. On their first day, the world-class jazz musicians were introduced to the island’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and stunning landscapes.
“This year, I’m especially excited about the incredibly talented group of artists who will be sharing their experiences with us. They are all incredible music mentors, and I know we will all have something to learn from them during the masterclasses. In the world of musicians, it’s not always easy to convey a message, but it’s important to always remain creative and seek inspiration,” said Thana Alexa, artistic director and co-founder of the Festival.
Today, the Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival will officially open with a press conference, followed by a performance by the Nicole Zuraitis Quartet at 9:00 PM in the garden of the Grand Hotel. After the concert, visitors and participants can enjoy a jam session led by Thana Alexa. The second evening will feature a concert by Linda May Han Oh and her band, The Glass Hours, followed by a jam session by the PL Jazz Participant House Band, composed of talented young festival participants. The third and final day of the festival is reserved for a concert by Thana Alexa, featuring Antonio Sánchez, Michael League, and Antonio Mazzei.
Admission to the jazz concerts is free for all visitors. During the festival, from August 29 to 31, free boat transfers will be organized for the audience from Dubrovnik. The Argosy boat will depart daily from Lapadska Obala 7 (bus stop in front of the Faculty of Economics) at 7:00 PM, and from Lopud in front of Hotel Lafodia at 12:30 AM, except on August 31 when it departs at 1:00 AM.
Ponta Lopud Creative Platform hosts and presents three summer cultural programs in 2024, welcoming all art lovers, especially those passionate about film, music, and literature. Ponta Lopud Summer Screenings, celebrating the art of film, was the first of three events held from June 27 to 29. The second event, which will attract music lovers to the island from August 29 to 31, is the popular Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival. The third, new addition to the creative platform is the Ponta Lopud Book Bridge, a festival running from September 27 to 29, rounding off the summer festivities and closing Lopud’s cultural-artistic season.
